The New "Holmes on the Range" Novel Is Here!

There are a lot of reasons I'm not particularly good at marketing. One is a tendency to be too clever by half with my blogging and social media, dancing around any sales pitch with a lot of self-absorbed blather. Like right now, for instance. Here I am writing about my weakness as a marketer when there's marketing to be done.

So allow me to be blunt, friends: THE NEW "HOLMES ON THE RANGE" NOVEL IS FINALLY ON SALE, AND I WANT YOU TO BUY IT!!!

The Double-A Western Detective Agency is available here as an ebook and here as a paperback. It looks like there's going to be an audiobook, too, but that'll take a while. I'd get into the reasons for the delay, but that would steer me away from the point. Which is this:

THE NEW "HOLMES ON THE RANGE" NOVEL IS FINALLY ON SALE, AND I WANT YOU TO BUY IT!!!

Hurry hurry hurry step right upOf course, all this crass, carnival barker, hard-sell self-promotion makes me a bit uncomfortable. I am, after all, a sensitive artist. I'd much rather be using this space for soul-searching explorations of creativity and connection in today's dizzyingly capricious world. You know -- "self-absorbed blather"? But let's face it. You know where this is heading. The gag's been established, and you can see those big, bolded words waiting for you in the next paragraph. So I might as well drop the pretense. Let's say it together, shall we?

It feels like the world could use some these days, so I obliged. I guess I'm just nice like that. You're welcome, humanity!

Fantastic -- thank you so much! Reviews (especially good ones, of course!) are super-super-helpful.

Finished it over the weekend. Really enjoyed it!

Love the new book! About half way through but pretty sure the second half will equal the first. You have probably answered this 1,274.3 times, but where did you come up with the name Amblingmeyer? Also, can we expect the next book any day now? Ya, I’m inpatient.

Steve

Excellent to hear you're digging the book so far, Robert! Fingers crossed I don't blow it in the second half.

I've only been asked the Amlingmeyer question 634.2 times, so I haven't gotten sick of it yet. (Actually, it's probably more like eight times over the course of 13 years, which isn't overpowering at all!) The answer: I went to elementary school with a girl named Amlingmeyer. When I was starting the series I wanted to pick a name for my heroes that reflected the diversity of the West: It wasn't just dudes named "Buck Smith" and "Duke Steele" or whatever. So I pulled the uber-Germanic "Amlingmeyer" out of the old memory banks and used that.

As for the next book, "any day now" would be a bit premature. As would "any week now" or "any month now." Would "any year now" be acceptable?
